October – December 2008: Realisation of the pilot project ‚solar village St. Augustin’ (solar electricity and solar cookers)
A container with equipment to generate solar electricity (photovoltaics) is sent to Madagascar in June 2008 (see our photo kit ).With this material ADES will ensure a minimal electrification of the fishing village St. Augustin (about 35 south from Tuléar). Its about 50 families will be able to use 1 -2 lamps and a radio, and the hospital and other public buildings will be provided with electricity. This project is only possible thanks to the generous financial support of the foundation “Third Millennium”, the association Solarspar and the Swiss companies TRITEC (www.tritec-energy.com) and Trunz (www.trunz.ch) who sponsored the project with solar equipment. The solar systems will probably be installed in St. Augustin between October and December and then be put into operation. The use of solar cookers by the villagers is also part of the pilot project, which shall be an example for the use of solar energy in the sunny south of Madagascar. This pilot project for solar electricity is the first and biggest of its kind in Madagascar.
