ADES’ first and foremost goal is to protect Madagascar’s unique flora and fauna. Since there are situations when solar cookers cannot be used – such as bad weather or early morning – we keep searching for alternatives to reduce deforestation and make sure natural resources are used as efficiently as possible.
After long and intense testing under optimal conditions we are now able to prove that the energy saving oven we have developed reduces the amount of wood or charcoal used by 65%. An excellent result, considering that the construction of the cookers is absolutely simple. They consist of a fired clay combustion chamber, an aluminium lid and a sheet metal shell. Energy saving can be as simple as that!
We offer two varieties of the oven; OLI-b for the use of wood, OLI-c for the use of charcoal. We have sold over 500 OLI-b ovens up to now. In fact both varieties have sold very successfully, and presently the demand is overtaking the supply.
Energy saving ovens are meant to complement the solar cookers or to facilitate the access to solar cookers. Ideally, people use OLI-b or OLI-c in addition to a solar cooker. If they do, consumption of wood and charcoal can be diminished by 70 to 80% per household.
Also local craftsmen profit from the energy saving ovens, for the clay parts as well as the sheet metal are produced on the premises.
