Cooking with sunlight means breaking up with centuries of tradition. From time immemorial Madagascans have prepared their meals on open wood fires. Implementing change here is no minor project. Especially the older part of the population sets great store by traditions, whereas the younger generation is more open-minded when it comes to change. Consequently, our focus for development work must be on the schools.
Children are the future. Everywhere, and most particularly in Madagascar. In order to further competence in environmental issues, ADES has developed its own curriculum for schools.
Thanks to Yvonne Wittenbach, a Swiss teacher, who put a lot of energy and expertise into the project, a customized programme for Madagascan schools could be developed.
Ranaivo Haja Nirina, who is responsible for ADES’ training on the premises, will visit four Madagascan schools in 2011, and she will talk to each class at least four times. She will also take part in the regular teachers’ training courses.
Based on the experiences of the activities in 2011 the school programme will be expanded and further lessons will be planned.
